WWE BREAKING POINT PPV TONIGHT

SHOUT TO 4WRESTLING FTOM NT :hat

The newest WWE gimmick PPV, Breaking Point, takes place tonight, taking the place of the Unforgiven. The WWE has had success with some gimmick PPVs (Night of Champions) and not so much with others (Cyber Sunday). Regardless of how tonight's show does, the gimmick PPVs will continue as we have Hell in a Cell next month and Tables, Ladders, and Chairs in December (can't wait to see HHH in that match). It will be very interesting to see the buy rate of tonight's show. A few years back, submissions were a major part of the WWE (Benoit, Angle, Jericho, and Flair to name a few). However, today the only wrestlers to utilize submissions as finishers are John Cena and The Undertaker (and The Taker hasn't wrestled in six months). For a show built around submissions, you would have thought the WWE would have made the idea of the top guys using submissions feel important. Over the past two months they could have easily worked in Orton and HHH using some type of finisher. They could of had Punk move away from the GTS and back to the Anaconda Vice. But of course, that would be too far sighted for the WWE's planning. I have no idea what move Orton will use. HHH used the ugliest Sharp Shooter in history this past Monday. So we shall see how the fans will react in the big moments of tonight's matches, because I suspect they may not even realize the matches are coming to a culmination since they aren't familiar with the finishing submissions (except for the STF).

Also, Dolph Ziggler vs John Morrison was pulled from tonight's card. The reason I've read is because the WWE didn't want either man to lose at this point, and they could not come up with a finish to make both men look good. Yes, you read that correctly. People who's job is to write and book wrestling matches could not think of a finish, so they pulled possibly the best match of the night off the card. They didn't choose to pull Kane vs Khali. No, they pulled Morrison vs Zigler. That's just terrible and inexcusable on the WWE's part.

Kofi Kingston (c) vs The Miz - United States Title Match

Morrison and Zigler were removed and this match was added. The report from last night's house show is that this match stole the show. We'll see if they are given a chance to do the same tonight. After proving he was Cena's personal jobber, The Miz reset his goals on being the United States Champion. Wow, lofty goal. Anyway, Kingston has avoided losing the title multiple times but really hasn't done anything as champ. The Miz should get the belt here and maybe start a new push.

Prediction: The Miz - New United States Champion

Mark Henry and MVP vs Chris Jericho and The Big Show (c) - Unified Tag Team Titles Match

I don't buy Henry and MVP as legitimate contenders, and I doubt many others do either. Maybe it's because I see Henry as a perennial jobber (despite the inexplicable decision to have him crush Randy Orton on his debut night on Raw ... which from that point he went on to become a black leprechaun). I also am so bored with MVP. His face character sucks. His catch phrases are so played out and corny. And his big time moves (Ballin and The Playmaker) are silly. Yes, he had back to back good matches with Jericho on Raw, but it's hard to have a bad match with Chris Jericho. I don't see any chance of Jericho and Show losing tonight. The match should be fine as long as they don't have Henry and Show together too much.

Prediction: Chris Jericho and The Big Show - Retain Unified Tag Team Titles

Christian (c) v William Regal with Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson - ECW Title Match

Hopefully they get more than 8 seconds tonight. They had a good match on ECW a few weeks back. It seems like the right time for a title change. Christian will still be over in ECW, and putting the belt on Regal lends credibility to The Evil Empire or whatever they call Regal's group. If they get any time, it will be a good match.

Prediction: William Regal - New ECW Champion

D-Generation X (HHH and Shawn Michaels) vs The Legacy (Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase Jr) - Submissions Count Anywhere Match

This is actually an interesting one. DX has surprisingly hasn't buried Rhodes and Dibiase over the past month. They are finally starting to gain some momentum, and that's what really makes me nervous about tonight. It just feels like we're due for one of those classic DX vs Spirit Squad type burial matches. I hope not. A win for Legacy would go a LONG way here, especially since DX won last month (despite being a competitive match), however, the submission stipulation makes me find it very hard to see DX losing. With the submissions count anywhere stip, you can be sure that this one is going all over the arena. I'd love to see them go out into the parking lot or some other crazy spot instead of just the normal backstage area. They should pull out all the stops here. And like I said above, I may vomit if I see another HHH Sharpshooter. I'm going to go against my common sense and say somehow Legacy wins this match (of course HBK will be the one to submit).

Prediction: The Legacy

Randy Orton (c) vs John Cena - WWE Title Submission Match

To me, this is one of the easiest matches of the night to pick. Orton has been "slithering" his way to victories for quite some time now. I'm still trying to figure out what happened in last month's cluster**** of a match. What a complete mess that was, especially with Lillian being drunk. Randy Orton laid out Cena with the RKO on the chair to end Raw this past Monday. That pretty much sealed it for me. Plus, like I said above, Orton doesn't have a submission (unless you count his rear chinlock of doom). I'm sure these two will have a good match, but I just can't get very excited about such a stale match. WWE crowds have changed so much over the past 5 years, but I'll still be interested to hear Cena's reaction. And don't worry, with Hell in a Cell only three weeks away, I'm sure we'll be seeing this match again in 21 days.

Prediction: John Cena - New WWE Champion

The Undertaker vs CM Punk (c) - World Title Submission Match

I'm really looking forward to this match. The Undertaker returned at Summerslam to attack CM Punk. I don't quite know what The Undertaker's motivation against CM Punk is other than wanting the title. I wish they would have come up with some type of storyline, but whatever. I'm excited about this match because it's a fresh match, and that's something very rare in the WWE today. CM Punk took his opportunity as World Champion and has completely run with it. He was good when he was the WWE Champion last year, but this time he's on a whole other level. CM Punk's straight edge heel "I'm better than you" character (which is what got him over in Ring of Honor) is amazing. The word backstage is that Punk is "untouchable" right now, and the big guns in the WWE love what he's doing. So, I'm hoping the WWE does the right thing here and keeps the title on CM Punk. No, The Undertaker is not going to tap out of the Anaconda Vice. However, he doesn't have to. If everything goes as I expect, this will be the only match where outside interference will occur. So The Undertaker will probably control most of this match. I don't know who will get involved, maybe someone new, but somehow The Undertaker gets knocked out. Punk then locks on the Anaconda Vice to an unconscious Undertaker. Taker never taps, but the ref calls the match because Taker cannot respond. CM Punk retains the title, and because of the outside interference, it sets up perfectly for a rematch at Hell in a Cell.

I want to say one thing though, regardless of what happens tonight (whether it be Punk winning in a disputed finish or The Undertaker winning the title), the end result of this feud needs to be CM Punk beating The Undertaker cleanly in the middle of the ring. This would be the ultimate seal of approval and truly make CM Punk a main eventer. If this was HHH, I'd say there wasn't a chance. But I think The Undertaker will do what's right for business. I would expect this to probably take place at Survivor Series.

Prediction: CM Punk - Retains World Championship

ON PAPER THE SHOW LOOKS LIKE IT WILL ALRIGHT. I'M GONNA HAVE A HARD TIME WATCHING IT WITH FOOTBALL, THE VMAS, AND THE KING OF THE HILL SERIES FINALE ALL BEING ON TONIGHT. SO I'LL PROBABLY MISS ALOT OF THIS. BUT YALL ENJOY AND IF I REMEMBER I'LL POST A STREAM OF IT LATER ON IF THIS POST.....
