Andrew Bates better known by his stage name and alias, Black, hails from Harrisburg, Pa (Star City). This self-proclaimed unsung hero became interested in rapping at the tender age of 13. Being amongst other local artists, he didn’t want to be the only one not writing so he picked up a pen, an old composition book and took his first steps on a journey that would take his mind places he could never dream of. He never sought for rapping to be any source of income, just a hobby. However, though rapping was a hobby, he worked hard to become one of the nicest at this particular craft.
Growing up Black was influenced a lot by 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and other MC’s of the ‘90’s. Other rappers that influence Black’s music are Jay-Z, Beanie Segal, Kanye West, Freeway, Cam’ron, and more recently Joe Budden.
Black is not nor does he claim to be a thug so u won’t hear it in his music. His style is different from many of his peers as he does not rap about anything if he has not lived it; to him that is life imitating art.
You are either going to like his music or not like it. He knows that he can’t please everyone and he doesn’t try to. He speaks what is on his mind and remains truthful.

When you hear him, you'll like him, but when you listen you'll love him.
A breath of fresh air is something that you can't truly appreciate until you've nearly been suffocated, taken a step out the house on an early spring morning, or until you've gotten so accustomed to low quality material that you find yourself tolerating underachievers because they sound better than what everybody else is putting out. If you have a room full of women, with ten of them being 3's, and then you insert a 6, yes she may look better than the rest of the women, but a 6 she still is.
The good news is that a breath of fresh air is upon us all in the form of G.o.D. Jewels. Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, otherwise known as the Wild Wild 100's, G.o.D. Jewels has been honing his craft, while quietly making moves and conjuring up his personal campaign on how he plans to enter the game, take over the game, and leave an impact that will match up with Hip-Hop's pioneers and ambassadors.
When first encountering this young artist, many people will wonder what motivated him to choose the name he uses. Taking a page out of the late Notorious B.I.G.’s book, the acronym “G.o.D.” serves as a catchall for a wide array of sayings and slogans that Jewels lives by. Whether it’s “Glory or Death” or “Greatness opens Doors”, “G.o.D.” can take on almost infinite meanings. At the same time, he feels as though he is in fact “God’s Jewel”. A special and uniquely talented individual, blessed with poetic and musical gifts that would make Apollo himself green with envy. He encourages everyone to realize their full potential and worth as human beings. “We’re all jewels in our own right, some just shine harder than others.”
Living in the Midwest in his formative years has molded an original artist whose style is not in prison; not trapped in one dimension. While his Chicago pride and dialect is very evident in his music, with his manifest destiny flow, his words and style transcend the regions. If you are a fan of hip-hop, you will be a fan of this man.
In today's music industry, especially hip-hop, who you are off of the microphone often takes precedence over what you are saying. G.o.D Jewels realizes this, and does not shy away from who he is, and how his environment has influenced him. Violence doesn't fuel his lyrics, and his priority isn't to be a super-thug, however he does live by the first law of nature, self-preservation.
Although he is not a member of any prevalent Chicago gang, he has lived around many people who at one time would be considered rival gang members. Jewels could be known as a street scholar because he definitely knows his lit [fundamental knowledge about an organizations background, what they believe, the founders, and why they are who they are]. Jewels is one of the many who now realize that gang banging and killing over blocks and colors is senseless. His crew, Embassy Empire, also known as E2, is made up of one of the Folks, one of the Black Stones, and one of the Lords. He states, "So it's like almost all gangs is represented within that one clique. And that's just a symbol of where Chicago is at right now as far as gang relations...Everybody kick it, and everybody is cool...Regardless of who or what you is. I know a lot of Folks, Moes, etc. I don't give it a second thought, that's how used to it we are."
It's been said that the strong move quiet, and while Jewels has been quietly honing his craft, there is a rage within him that the rap game will soon feel. Jewels will let you know, financial prosperity in this game is definitely a motivation, but respect and accolades for his work take precedence. So embrace yourself for a movement, a movement that will create classical music, and tell the contemporary story on what it means to be young, black and gifted in this ever-changing volatile world.

By using everything from samples to live instrumentation, Green Street brings back the sound from the Native Toungues-era while still keeping it fresh and relevant for today’s audience. Back in February 2009, we confirmed the rumors that the "True Blue" Air Jordan III (3) would be releasing in August, and we now have pictures of the actual sneaker to share. As most already know, this style of the Air Jordan 3 features a white leather upper with true blue accents on the mid-sole, inner lining, and lace region, while cement print is placed on the heel, lace region, and toecap. As of now, no major differences between the re-retro and the retro release can be spotted, but only time will tell how Jordan Brand decides to release this extremely sought after sneaker. The Air Jordan Retro III (3) True Blue currently has a tentative release month of August 2009, so be sure to stay tuned at SneakerFiles for updates.

THE STREET WEAR/BOUTIQUE RAP CAN GET YOU BUT SO FAR. MAYBE HE CAN GET A DEAL OFF OF IT BUT THAT IS ALL I SEE HAPPENING. ALL THOUGH HIS ALBUM WAS ONE OF THE BEST THIS YEAR THOUGH. THAT GETS A PLUS IN MY BOOK ALL DAY. BUT ONCE THIS STREET WEAR AND SNEAKER TREND GOES AWAY HIM AND THE COOL KIDS WILL BE WORKING AT DAVE'S QUALITY MEATS. WELL MAYBE NOT CURREN$Y BECAUSE HE STILL WILL BE ABLE TO KNOW HOW TO SPIT BUT ATLEAST THE COOL KIDS WILL.
KID CUDI- LAST BUT NOT LEAST MR. SUPER DUPER CUDI LOL. I SAY THIS EVERYDAY DUDE ISN'T A RAPPER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CALL HIM BUT HE MAKES GOOD MUSIC. BOTH OF HIS MIXTAPES HE HAS DROPPED ARE BETTER THAN MOST NIGGAS ALBUMS. I SEE HIM DOING BIG THINGS WITH KANYE THIS YEAR AND MAYBE DROPPING A CRAZY ASS ALBUM. BEFORE I DIE I GOTTA SEE HOMIE PERFORM THE SHIT LOOKS CRAZY. AND HE HAS A TOP 5 HIT WITH THE DAY N NITE TRACK. I GIVE HIM AN A- NOW BUT I THINK IF HE KEEPS GRINDING HE WILL GET AND A+ FROM ME LATER ON THIS YEAR.

THIS MIGHT BE ONE THE FUNNIEST THINGS TO ME. THIS FRESHMAN CLASS PROVES THAT HIP HOP FANS DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY WANT OUT OF AN ARTIST...ME INCLUDED. EVERYONE WAS CHANTING THESE DUDES ARE GONNA SAVE HIP HOP NOW PEOPLE ARE CALLING THEM GARGABE. MAYBE IT WAS THEIR FAULT. IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST FALSE ADVERTISENT OR SOMETHING. I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THESE DUDE COCKY ATTITUDES THEY GAINED FROM THIS MAGAZINE. I DIDN'T SEE ANYONE FROM THE PREVIOUS MAGAZINE ACTING SASSY ON INTERVIEWS LIKE WALE BE DOING. I THINK THAT HAS TO WITH PEOPLE CALLING THESE DUDES SAVIORS. AND TO BE HONEST I SEE MAYBE THE SAME RESULTS AS THE LAST XXL FRESHMAN. NOW LET'S THINK WHO WAS ON THAT LAST MAG.....LUPE, PAPOOSE, JOEL ORTIZ, CROOKED I, GORILLA ZOE, LIL BOOSIE, RICH BOY, PLIES, YOUNG DRO, AND SAIGON. NOT SKILL WISE BUT SUCCESS WISE MAYBE BE EVEN MORE SUCCESSFUL. BUT THE BAD PART ABOUT THAT IS I SEE CUDI BEING SUCCESSFUL IN SOMETHING OTHER THAN RAP MUSIC. MAYBE WALE CAN MAKE SOME NOISE BUT I FEEL HE WON'T BE SUCCESSFUL AS HE COULD BE. I THINK HE IS GONNA BE ANOTHER POLITICED BY HIS LABEL SPITTER WORD TO FABOLOUS. HE IS GONNA KILL THE MIXTAPE GAME BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE ALBUM THE LABEL IS GONNA WATER THE DOWN THE HELL OUT OF IT WITH R&B HOOKS AND CHEAP RAP FEATURES. BUT I'M GONNA END IT HERE. FAVORITE TRACK ON THE ALBUM WOULD HAVE TO BE "REAL PEOPLE". BEAT WAS CRAZY AND HE SPIT SOME REAL SHIT ABOUT EVERYDAY LIFE. ALBUM WAS JUST A MASTERPIECE AND YOU CAN SAY KANYE RESURRECTED COMMON'S CAREER WITH THIS ALBUM. GETTING COMMON SOME MAINSTREAM SUCCESS AND GETTING COMMON HIS FIRST MUSIC AWARD AND GOLD ALBUM. A LOT OF PEOPLE ACTUALLY THINK THIS IS COMMON'S FIRST ALBUM LOL. I GUESS THAT WAS A GOOD THINK IN SOME WAY BECAUSE COMMON WAS GOING THROUGH SOME BULLSHIT ON A COUPLE ALBUMS BEFORE THIS. THE LYRICS ARE THERE AND THE PRODUCTION IS ON POINT. SOME OF KANYE'S BEST PRODUCTION CAN BE FOUND ON THIS ALBUM. THE ALBUM ALSO HAS A LOT OF QUOTABLES THAT I USE SOMETIMES IN MY EVERYDAY LIFE. SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS ALBUM PICK IT UP ASAP. THEN SLAP YOURSELF FOR MISSING PUT ON THIS ALBUM FOR 4 YEARS NOW LOL. COMMON IS THIS THAT AND HE HAS DROPPED 2 MORE ALBUM SINCE THIS ONE AND NONE OF THEM ARE EVEN CLOSE TO THE LEVEL OF THIS ALBUM. HOPEFULLY HE'LL DROP ANOTHER BE IN THE NEAR.
