R.A.O.F. PRESENTS "WE THE ILLEST": Wordspit Interview

I did this interview on Wordspit like a good 4 months ago probably even long. But its still good material on homie. If you're not familiar with Wordspit he's a new up and coming rapper from New York. If you have a TV you probably seen homie on a McDonalds commercial here and there. He's definitely doing his thing early and will be relevant in the music from years to come........

For Dummies:
Me= Orange
Wordspit= White

What are some of your biggest music influences growing up?

I have a long list of influences, but to site a few, I would say Canibus, Rakim, Nas, Master P, Nirvana , and System Of A Down. Once again I'm influenced by so many things that the list could go on forever.

That's whats up. I see alot of people are comparing your style to Big L and say you sound a lot like him. How exactly do you feel about that comparison?

Its an honor to get compared to a legend! Big L was a monster and even tho we share similar voices, I feel there are a lot of differences. I think people hear my delivery and aggressive flow and compare us, which is great, If that will help people ease into my music. In time I think people will differentiate us as artist and see WordSpit as An Individual.

What made me you pick up the mic?

Man since I was young I always wanted to rap. Soon as I was old enough to merge my thoughts on a piece of paper it was over. No deeper meaning just the pure love for the culture and the creativity that thrives from it.

How did you come with the name Wordspit?

When I first started rapping my name was Streetz. I was doing a lot of things I'm not too proud of, you could hear the mentally I had in my rhyme structure. A year or two after that I took on the name Word From the Streetz. I felt I was becoming more poetic with my rhymes. Not only was I narrating my life, but I was narrating the lives of the people around me.

A short period after that my brother came to me and Said "Word you Spit" giving me the name WordSpit. Now I'm here getting interviewed by you lol.

Good shit. That was definitely a great story on your name. Do you feel your name stands a lot from all the Lils, Youngs, and Wakas lol?

And will listens clinge on to it?

Even tho your name plays an important roll in who you are as an artist, I feel the music is what people are really here for. It's so many artist out there, some with great names and some with crazy tags, but does that take away from the music if its good? No. I want people to cling to the music I make more then the name I choose. We The ILLest!

LOL You'll be surprise I've seen dudes get over looked because of their names SMH. But while we're on it. Explain your "We The ILLest!" catch phrase?

We The ILLeSt! Is the phrase I live by. it means do everything with in your reach to the ILLeSt extent possible. I feel like we can be good by ourselves but together we can be great.

Cool words to live by. How do you feel about the up North hip hop scene right? Alot of people saying it fell off. But I want to know how a rapper feels about it first hand.

Dam, We Feel off? How? I think every region gets to shine at one point or another. As far as the up north music scene I feel like we have some great acts coming out soon. I've bumped heads with some great artist so its hard for me to understand Why people are saying we feel off. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Naw not me personal. I've been seeing it said alot in recently. I'm personally not a fan of blocking music based on Regions. Good music is good music. Any new rapper you've came across, that music you think is cool?

To many to mention. We could be here all day.
Lol

LOL I see. How do you feel about what XXL is doing for the new artist with their yearly Top 10 Freshman mag? And do you think soon you'll eventually grace a cover?

I think it is fresh, that XXL Is giving up an coming Mc's who are on their grind an opportunity to grace the cover of their magazine. I loved the viral campaign this year. The cinematography was on point . One day with a lot more work and elbow grease hope to be apart of grand experience.

Speaking of cinematography. No gas but all of your videos have been very good. Poet's Haiku is my favorite of yours. How was it doing that video?

Thanks man. I felt great shooting this video. Besides being an intense composition, its a real down to earth song, many people can relate to. We wanted to come up with a video that displayed Wordspit in a different light. We wanted to display the emotion behind the verses. Most people are use to seeing the light hearted Wordspit music videos, so we wanted to deliver the side of me people are unfamiliar with. We also wanted to make the viewer feel like they were watching a movie so we added minor effects, that really brouught everything together well We The ILLest!

Dope. Are you shooting anymore videos to the Coolest Bboi Stance? Also how was the feedback on that project?

I don't know if I'm doing anymore videos or The Coolest Bboi Stance, but the feed baack from the project has been awesome. A lot of people really like the songs I have composed. I'm just waiting to see where the future takes me.

Got any future projects lined up?

Hahahaaah(evil lol) all I'm going to say is maybe

Just wait and see.

Damn not even a preview lol? Oh well I'll wait. But to wrap this thing up. This is your chance yo let it all out (Pause). Any rappers or singers you're feeling currently. Who you want to collab with. And R&B/models you want to get with when you get on. Any shoutouts. Wordspit let the World know!

Yup I would like to shout out all my supporters. Shout out to Team ILLest. I like to shout you out son for all your support. Shoutout to my manager. Check me on..

Remember We The ILLest

Aight pretty decent interview if I may say so myself. I'll leave a couple Wordspit videos here so you can catch up if you were sleeping. And download the Coolest Bboi Stance mixtape HERE

FROM THE GROUND UP

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

QUALMES IS UP AND COMING ARTIST COMING OUT OF CALI THIS MAKING MAJOR MOVES RIGHT NOW. HE MERGES SMOOTH MELODIES AND ROUGH DICTION TO PRODUCE TODAY'S HOTTEST TREND IN RAP MUSIC. SAYING HE IS BRINGING FRESH AIR AND NEW DIRECTION TO THE WEST COAST RAP SCENE IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL. IN WHAT SEEMS LIKE AN ONLY GANG INFLUENCE IN WEST COAST MUSIC QUALMES ALONG WITH A COUPLE OTHER NEW RAPPERS ARE CHARGING THE GAME UP AND SHOWING THAT THE WEST AIN'T ALL ABOUT REP FLAGS, COLORS AND GANG VIOLENCE. WITH THAT SAID I BRING YOU THE R.A.O.F X QUALMES INTERVIEW "FROM THE GROUND UP".....

AG: What are some of your hip hop influences growing up?

QUALMES: Growing up when I was younger I was real heavy on The Dogg Pound, Snoop & Biggie. Now a days I really only listen to 50, older Nas and Sade.

AG: No Game?

QUALMES: Don't Get me wrong... Game's a good rapper but dude can't write a song to save his life... On top of his obsession for Dre is suspect as hell... When you cross over from mixtapes to albums you have to become an artist and showcase your creative writing and song abilities which he strongly lacks.

A: Me being a big game fan I can feel you on that. How do you feel your music is any different from any other West Coast artist coming up in the hip hop world.

Q: I focus on being creative and not having something you can pin point as a "West Coast" sound... Rushed products are the worst products. It's like rappers are so focused on dropping tape after tape just to keep their name out there that their music is suffering from it. Look at the West Coast. I'm not here to put nobody down on there grind or there hustle but everybody a carbon clone of Snoop. after him there Game now you got Nipsey. All that gang-banging shit is played. I'm all about good music and not proving I can shoot 100 motherfuckers in a song.

A: Yea West Coast Gang life seem to reflect on the music. Even though you don't rhyme about it. Was Gang life apart of yours growing up?

Q: I been all around it growing up. I never got into is. My brother got shot dealing with so I've seen the first hand outcome of it. I got friends and family members in gangs. But I always stayed away from it. I've seen to many people die and get locked up over it. I got a lil caught up in dealing. But nothing to major. I'm just happy I had enough focus and smarts to not go knee deep in shit that was only gonna put me in a worse position.

A: Do you feel that your music will change up the West Coast music game? Or has it had some effect already?

Q: Mos def... I'm taking a new approach. All the moves I've made have been without some one behind me. I don't have any management, street team etc. backing me and reps is already hearing my name in the office. I genuinely love making music. I think that gets me apart from people already. Who do this for name, money, bitches etc. The West is one big playground like every other spot in the US. Regardless of time the talent always come to light.

A: Cool... How long you think its gonna be before we see you on BET and gossip blogs and shit word to Wale.

Q: Def before end of next year. I got shit brewing up right now that a real good look. My whole thing is I don't want someone controlling my moves. It's all about longevity I'm not about to be another coon they got out here shucking and jiving for a slice of watermelon.

A: LMAO Speaking of brewing. What is the deal with your next project?

Q: I scrapped my first two original concepts b/c I felt they were a waste using as mixtapes you know? I went to the original concept of the "Red Eye Flight EP" which I'm gonna drop before years end. This is what's gonna really knock peoples heads like the kid a fucking problem.

A: Damn cant' wait. Explain the tape in 1 sentence.

Q: Check in, terminal, first class, baggage claim, destination, All access the world... If thats even makes sense and is a sentence lol.

A: That will work lol.... Alright to wrap this joint up. Any shoutouts you want to give? Any certain up and coming spitters you feeling? Any Hollywood bitches you want to smash? All that just let it all out...PAUSE!

Q: lol...First shoutout to everybody eho stays supporting on me... Could give a fuck if niggas think giving a shout to NT is corny but they hold it down. As far as up and coming spitters I really only fuck with The Boy Illinois, G.o.D. Jewels, Jynx and niggas like that. I don't mean to leave niggas out but I don't wanna say million names. If I fuck with you, you know I got you on a track fuck a shoutout lol. Hollywood bitches Ummmmm. I ain't tryin to brag and shit but without a deal I've bagged a couple of the lil wallet sniffers :hat. Kim Kardasian and Rosario Dawson are def on my radar though a niggah will get to trick or treating for them other than that everybody who knows me yall know I'm a regualr dude who's gifted at what he does. we can always chop it up not even on no fan and artist shit just real people. Big shoutout out my nigga GQ... nigga beats are ridiculous. He makes my job that much easier cause he always got heat. Last shoutout def goes to you my nigga. You always puttinh on the new talent and you know real niggas appreciate that shit. BANG BANG SUPREME GANG BRATTTTT!!!

DAVY GEE.... ONE HALF OF DUELING BRAINS FILM GROUP

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

IT'S BEEN A WHILE BUT I'M BACK ON THE INTERVIEWS. I'M HAPPY THAT MY RETURN WAS AN INTERVIEW WITH MY HOMIE DAVY GOMEZ 1/2 DUELING BRAINS GROUP(ALONG WITH MY NIG RUSSELL WRIGHT WHICH I INTERVIEWED EARLIER THIS YEAR). SO FAR THEY HAVE DONE THREE VIDEOS FOR HIP HOP ARTIST MR. JEFFERSON (TRUE DEVOTION, NEW MONEY, GET EM AND DIFFERENT SHIT) AND HOPEFULLY SOME MORE UP AND COMING PROJECTS. MY NIGGAS ARE GOIN PLACES FOREAL. SO PEEP AND MAYBE YOU'LL LEARN A THING OR TWO.....

ME: Just to start it off slow. What inspired you to do film?

DAVY: Um I have an older brother, like 7 years older. So I was never "cool enough" to hand out with him and his friends. You know your 18 and you have an 11 yr old isn't cool imagine 15 walking around with a 8yr old. Dad was at work and my mom didnt have a car, so i was stuck at home. TV was tha shit, Id just watch it all the time. I musta been the only person in my house that could fuck with a VCR cause Id record everything. Music videos and movies became the shit to me as i got older and into high school, so it was a given. I always listened to music growing up, and I read a lot cause of the fucking FCAT. shit was easy to me cause Id see what I read/listened to in my head. So it translated to me writing up my own shit. I was good at drawing so I would try to make comics and shit but yeah, film, books, music was always apart of me, so i knew the industry i wanted to get into.

ME: Would you say you're more of a music director or movie director? Or all around?

DAVY: The challenge with being a music director is that its initially not your vision. An artist makes a song and then what you make your own shit, so talking with the artist and seeing what they want is what you have to do. Unless your Hype or Gil Green who are already established directors on a movie, whether you wrote it or not its your shit, so w/e you want you do. If theres work Id accept it from either or, Im thinking for now I want to be a better music director - jus one day and you get a good amount of money. Course theres preproduction involved and a whole lotta shit you gotta do before the shoot day, but once your there - just one day. I was just 1st Assistant Director on a music video and one of my teachers who was the Producer told me the music video was worth (lights, dolly, camera) 80 grand easy. So thats were Id like to be. Thats not even how it comes out, no editing, just the unedited footage in 1080i. Can't beat that

ME: Did attending Full Sail change your direction or vision on directing? Good or Bad.

DAVY: Yeah, in a good way.Every month I know more than the month before. And the way the classes are set make since, after you pass them and shit, its amazing. I thought photography class was stupid, when in fact, some of the most valuable knowledge I have was built on that class.

ME: Aight cool, Is there any particular movie to you saw as child and said "Yeah this what I want to do with my life"?

DAVY: nah

ME: LOL. Explain the Dueling Brains Film Group for those who don't know about it?

DAVY: Dueling Brains is me and my nigha Russell Wright. whenever we listen to shit together and visualize it, its like our minds are fencing and shit. We keep going and going and shit usually looks good in our heads. We just got shit in the way from filming it and getting it out there. The videos that are out - we both worked on but we had roles. I edited and Russ directed and saw it and this and that. So DB is still on the ground, but i think its got more potential then we think

ME: Aight I feel you on the more potential part. Are there any past and future projects Dueling Brains has and will work on?

DAVY: Man right now with school taking my time and Russ doing his thang Dueling Brains is kinda at a stall. Collaborations take time and neither of us have it.

ME: I feel you on that..... Past project you wanna reflect on?

D: Ummm yea editing Different Shit was dope. & I learned that criticism is gonna come regardless. I stumbled upon an effect that looked weird but to us it matched the song, and we were like fuck it, we like, Joe liked it. So we threw it in there, its my favorite so far.

ME: Yeah I remember that effect...... With this directing where do you see it taking you? Or want it to take you?

DAVY: The industry is hard to be in & its hard to get in. I feel that it can take me places, course theres 235263274254 other film school kids wanting the same thing. I just gotta wait til the time gets there, and see where i can jump in. And once Im in then thats where the hard work starts. So i dont even know where I see myself in 10 years, some directors get their chance at 40 some at 20. so i jus gotta wait.

ME: Aight.... Just to wrap the interview up. Is there any else you want to tell the readers. And also early predictions on the Heat since I know you're a fan.

DAVY: Readers just stay tuned, follow me on Twitter. & all i can say is that we'll make tha playoffs. haha

ME: Yep Playoffs then a first round exit..........

DAVY: THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER!!!

And if I get good feed back I'll try to get some other people to do blog interviews..............THAT RISKY RUSS INTERVIEW IS COMING SOOOOOOON...

I CALL THIS THE INTERVIEW ABOUT NOTHING.............
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

REAL NIGGA=ME:where'd the idea for the album title come from?

WALE:it came from my heart...lol..but for real. music is so disposible...nobody pays attention...i'm tryna change it.

REAL NIGGA:that being said are you focusing on making this a concept album? the title definetely makes it seem like that.

WALE:sonically concepted because songs blend literally...like we may use the same baseline for trax 3 n 4 then switch it smoth.

REAL NIGGA:what do you mean lyrically? i would think lyrics would take control over the music or beats on an album with that title.

WALE:lyrically...its just about a lot of stuff..almost as if i was to add(which i am prolly) don't cover some grounds.
